Motown The Musical At The Oriental Theatre In ChicagoYou won't find a better score than the one that's heard in "Motown The Musical." That's because each and every song is a solid gold pop hit from the likes of such iconic groups as The Supremes, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Temptations, Martha and the Vandellas, The Jackson 5, and Gladys Knight and the Pips along with singular singers like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. Coming to the Oriental Theatre in Chicago on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 as the first stop on the national tour, the Tony Award-nominated jukebox musical opened on Broadway one year ago. With a book by Berry Gordy, the brains behind Motown, the story follows the early days of the record company along with Gordy's love affair with Diana Ross.
As for the songs of "Motown The Musical," audience members who grew up with them will be catapulted back in time to a time like no other while the younger crowd will be treated to a seminar in how to write a classic song. The tunes are all from the Motown catalog and include "Stop in the Name of Love," "My Girl," "You're All I Need to Get By," "I Heard it Through the Grapevine," "I Want You Back," "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours," "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "Dancing in the Street," "Please Mr. Postman," "You've Really Got a Hold On Me" and "Do You Love Me?" Directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, whose credits range from "Sophisticated Ladies" to the 75th anniversary tour of "Porgy and Bess," "Motown The Musical" will play in Chicago through July 13, 2014 and will continue on to San Francisco, Detroit, Kansas City and many other cities.
