Don't miss #ChicagoAirAndWaterShow August 20th-- admission is Free!
Looking for something fun, fast, and (maybe most importantly!) FREE to do this weekend? Well then buckle up and strap yourself in for the 58th annual Chicago Air and Water Show. This awesome show takes place August 20th and 21st and takes place at the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street with North Avenue Beach as the focal point for all events. Having started in 1959, nearly 2 million people flock to this annual event, making it the largest free admission air and water exhibition of this caliber in the United States. Read on for details and tips to maximize your show experience!
From 10am to 3pm on both Saturday and Sunday you're in store for a full schedule of areal feats. From the headliners to the opening performers you're sure to be pleased with these daredevil aerobatics and the machines which make it possible. Check out The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds and their display of raw, whining power! Or how about the U.S. Parachute Team The Golden Knights? These folks jump out of an aircraft at nearly 12,500 in the air and plummet to the earth's surface at speeds exceeding 120MPH! Still want more? How about The U.S. Navy Parachute Team Leap Frog? Differing from The Golden Knights, these folks can accelerate themselves up to 180 MPH during free-fall!
Chicago offers an extensive public transportation. Feel like driving? My recommendation, check out Millennium Parking. They offer a $35 all day package which includes a free shuttle to the beach! Or maybe you're interested in bike riding? Divvy Bike will be offering valet bike services at select stations to guarantee you a spot to dock your bike. Be sure to grab a 24 hour pass and ride away!
Oh yea, Be sure to check out this awesome list of aviator slang- it'll get you speaking like a military pilot in no time!
