Chicago Rooftop Bars
Now that the warm weather has arrived in Chicago, it’s time to head up to one of dozens of cool rooftop bars that hang above the downtown area. There’s nothing better than sipping your favorite cocktail, beer, or wine high above the city on a warm summer night.
For starters, there’s The Dec, which is just outside Deca Restaurant on the 12th floor of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. The bar makes great drinks and the observatory serves up great views. Fountainhead, a gastro-pub with a strong focus on beers from around the globe, boasts a rooftop garden that can seat 90.
If you think bigger is better, you’ll be primed for ROOF, the 7,000-square-foot restaurant and bar on the 27th floor of theWit Hotel. Highlights include hand-crafted specialty drinks and a retractable glass enclosure that will protect you if Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate.
The Chicago skyline pales in comparison to the atmosphere of Shanghai Terrace on the fourth floor of The Peninsula Chicago. Set up like a 1930s Shanghai supper club, the bar will take your breath away with cocktails like the Golden Apple, which is comprised of everything from Absolut Oriental Apple to Chinese wine. A wealth of whiskey choices combines with an array of beers to make Twisted Spoke’s rooftop deck a sublime summertime retreat.
