Popular comedian Jim Gaffigan once queried, "How good is bacon?" His response, "Let's put it this way: to improve other foods, they wrap it in bacon." Barring vegetarians and vegans, bacon has to be at the top of the list of America's favorite foods. And Baconfest Chicago showcases that sizzle with a delicious display of bacon-inspired innovation.

During Baconfest, the best chefs in Chicago concoct their finest dishes featuring this not-so-secret ingredient. Be sure to bring your appetite, and pace yourself since there's a scrolling list of restaurants participating in this pork celebration. The hottest chefs will dish up small plates inspired by the star of the show. Mixologists and brewers will pour beverages blended with bacon-infused flavors. If you've never tried this before, you have to at least give it a chance - bacon-based beers can have complex flavors from savory to smoky.

Discover the best of bacon on April 17th and 18th, as you get exposed to hundreds of chefs, restaurants and vendors selling bacon-related goodies. (According to the official lineup, it is 168 restaurants to be exact - 40 new restaurants since last year.) The walk-around tasting event will take place at the UIC Forum. General admission tickets ($100) go on sale on February 16th, opening a door to all the dishes baked, fried, sweet, salty, cured or crispy. Once you attend Baconfest, you'll realize the recipe possibilities are seemingly endless.
