Celebrate Thanksgiving in Chicago!

Though it often seems we skip straight from Halloween to Christmas, Chicago has not forgotten about Thanksgiving, and neither should you!  With countless ways to celebrate the holiday, you'll find much to be thankful for if you're spending Thanksgiving in the Windy City.

Kick off your Thanksgiving celebration at the
McDonald's Thanksgiving Day Parade featuring special guests like Ronald McDonald, Teddy Turkey, and Santa Claus.  Feast your eyes on the spectacle that features a dozen giant balloons the likes of Curious George, Tweety, Garfield, and more.  Savor the experience of different cultures as you take in performances by the McNulty Irish dancers, Hromovytsia Ukrainian Dance Ensemble, and the fire-twirling barefoot Hawaiians just to name a few.Celebrate the talented artists of Chicago with staged performances from the hit musical Million Dollar Quartet, Emerald City Theatre, The Joffrey Ballet, and several others.Join the 400,000 people who line State Street to enjoy Chicago's largest parade of the year.  It takes place on Thanksgiving Day from 8-11am and is broadcast live on WGN.

Still hungry for more Thanksgiving festivities after the parade?  Get your fill at one of the many Chicagoland restaurants serving up special Thanksgiving meals.  From Thanksgiving buffets to a la carte menus or three course meals, you're sure to find a restaurant to satisfy your taste-buds.  Check out the many recommendations made by Chicago Tribune's Phil Vettel by clicking here.

Still in the mood to celebrate?  Don't worry, there are plenty more holiday happenings taking place in Chicago over Thanksgiving weekend.  If you're staying with us at the Days Inn Chicago, you can walk over to the Lincoln Park Zoo on Friday evening a 4:55pm to witness the flipping of the switch to kick off the month long ZooLights festival.  ZooLights is the zoo's annual family celebration featuring luminous displays and holiday-themed activities.  Kids can also get their pictures taken with Santa.  New this year, the Lincoln Park Zoo has also opened an ice rink at the Farm-in-the-Zoo.  Open daily (except Christmas) from November 29 - March 2.

Also opening the week of Thanksgiving, get a start on your holiday shopping at Christkindlmarket, the German American holiday market at Daley Plaza.  Not yet full from your Thanksgiving feast?  Dive into authentic German cuisine at the market which features over a dozen food and beverage vendors.

Toss these activities in with a little holiday shopping along State Street or the Magnificent Mile, and you're sure to have a weekend you'll be thankful to have spent in Chicago.  To those who have chosen to stay with us at the Days Inn Chicago over your Thanksgiving weekend, we're thankful to be a part of your celebrations!
