Chicago Rock & Roll Half MarathonThe Chicago Rock & Roll Half Marathon hits the streets Sunday, July 20, 2014. Runners take their marks at 6:30 a.m. in Grant Park, which is also where the 13-mile race finishes. What makes this race so unique is that there is live music every mile. Yes, you read that correctly. Along every mile of the course in downtown Chicago, a rock band will be playing its heart out to inspire runners while they perspire.
And in case you're wondering what kind of bands these will be, well, they're all professional groups that will appear on an actual stage with all the accoutrements of an actual concert. Along with rock classics, you'll be regaled with all kinds of sounds, including jazz, blues, alternative, soul and punk. At the finish line, Cold War Kids will be the main music attraction, playing tunes from their latest album, Dear Miss Lonelyhearts, which features the oh-so-appropriate song, "Miracle Mile."
The two days prior to the Chicago Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon, Friday, July 19 & Saturday, July 20, is when the Health & Fitness Expo opens its doors to the public at McCormick Place. In addition to being the spot where runners secure their race packets, t-shirt and gear bag, the free Expo is home to more than 70 exhibitors. They'll be showcasing their wares that run the gamut from cool running gear and fitness attire to the latest health information. There will also be interactive displays and plenty of free samples. All race stuff can be purchased during the Expo at the Brooks Official Merchandise Store.
