Chicago Shamrock Shuffle 8K RunSerious and not-so-serious runners will gather at Grant Park in Chicago on March 30, 2014 for the annual Shamrock Shuffle. The 8K run, which is sponsored by Bank of America, will follow portions of the route used in the renowned Chicago Marathon. Flat as well as fast, the course has been the site of some rather successful running by some rather impressive runners, including Deena Kastor, who set the American 8K record in 2005 (24:36), and James Kariuki of Kenya, who set the course record (22:35). To participate, one must be able to keep up a pace of 15 minutes per mile and have the stamina to complete the race within one hour and 15 minutes. No one under 8 years old is permitted to run and everyone 18 and under is required to have written permission signed by a parent or guardian.
One of the highlights of the Shamrock Shuffle is the ever-popular post-race party. Held right after the race ends, the party will boast a boatload of live music, food and drink. All participants are invited to attend and a good time is always had by all. The festivities will continue once the post-race party concludes at 1:30 p.m. with another soiree. This one will be at The Scout Waterhouse + Kitchen from 2:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Runners 21 and over may redeem their race bib for a free beer. For those seeking mementoes of the Shamrock Shuffle, they can be purchased at the Health & Fitness Expo on the two days preceding the race and in Grant Park on the day of the race.
